Face Masks Made For Hearing Aids

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been encouraging all people to use cloth face masks when in public. From their reports, the CDC has gathered "that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms.  This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms.  In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission."

This applies to people of all ages and all places, along with those who still feel healthy. These health precautions have come at a time where cotton face masks have become widely available. People from all over the country have stepped up to supply their neighbors and communities with face coverings that will help them in their daily measures to be safer and more secure. However, there is a great need of face masks for people who use over-the-ear hearing aids. The Conversation reports that "the increased effort needed to listen and communicate is exacerbated in people who have a hearing loss. According to the WHO, there are 1.33 billion people globally with hearing loss."

The AARP has taken notice of the issue "For some older adults with hearing loss, wearing a face mask to the grocery store can be a pain if they are using over-the-ear hearing aids. The elastic bands commonly placed over the ears to secure the mask can get in the way of the tubing that connects the hearing aid to the speaker that sits in your ear. Beyond the discomfort, there is also a chance of losing a hearing aid when removing the mask." Currently, solutions involve pushing the ear bands back and securing them with a clip-like item.

The Cotton Mask Company has created a soft and durable solution for people using over-the-ear hearing aids to be able to wear a face mask at ease for extended period of time. The masks are made from high quality, tight-weave Italian and Swiss cottons, normally used in crafting premium high-end dress shirts for men. The mask features soft, secure and adjustable elastic loops that fasten around the base of the head for a comfortable and snug fit, eliminating any placement or irritation behind the ears.

The comfortable contoured design minimizes the gap between the face and mask, while providing for a full closure beginning at the top of the nose to the bottom of the chin. The masks are not only easy to hand wash and dry but they are handmade in the USA and do not expose any harm to the environment.

The Cotton Mask Co. creates face masks that can be used with hearing aids for children and adults. Order processing takes 1-2 business days, and are shipped out in individual packets within a USPS mailer using First Class mail. Shop hearing aid supporting face masks here.
